Rotarians Play it Forward 2011
Performer Bios:

Ben Tucker (Rotary Club of Savannah - Downtown): Noted jazz musician Benjamin Mayor Tucker in Brentwood,TN. Ben entered Tennessee State University in 1949 as a music major. Ben’s love for music began at an early age. He taught himself to play the tuba, the bass violin and piano. In the fifties Ben collaborated with Warren Marsh on his first recording, Jazz of Two Cities. Metronome magazine named him one of the world’s top ten bass players. In 1961, he recorded Coming Home Baby, a hit for Herbie Mann and Mel Torme. This song was featured in the film Get Shorty. Tucker became Savannah, Georgia’s first African American radio station owner in 1972 when he purchased WSOK Radio. In 1989, Tucker opened Hard Hearted Hannah’s, a jazz club. He was not only the owner of the club, but he also led the band six nights a week. Over the years, Tucker served on the boards of several organizations. He is also the creator of the Telfair Jazz Society in Savannah.

Camille Russo (Rotary Club of Savannah - Downtown): Camille moved to Savannah about five years ago, and is now a partner in Alta Innovations, a medical equipment distribution company based in Savannah. Camille sang her first solo in church at four years old. She won her first talent show when she was seven. Camille was a band geek in high school and played the flute. She sang in chorus in high school and college. For three years she sang with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Chorus. She won a Grammy (with 199 other singers) in 1998 for the recording of the Berlioz Requiem. She performed in Carnegie Hall in NYC and performed in Berlin with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra.

Jody Espina (Rotary Club of Savannah - Downtown): Jody Espina is the founder, president and designer of JodyJazz Saxophone & Clarinet Mouthpieces. He is a highly regarded Jazz saxophonist, clarinetist, and flutist with a unique and personal sound and is also a respected Jazz educator. Up until the year 2005, Jody was the Director of the Jazz
Department at the prestigious Hoff Barthelson Music School in Scarsdale, New York. He has performed live with show business legends Mel Torme’, Milton Berle, Patty Page and Country music icon, Eddie Arnold. He has also performed with Jazz greats Louis Bellson, Don Alias, Lew Solof, Vic Juris, Harvie Swartz, Bob Moses, Dave Douglas, the Charlie Persip Superband, Rachel Z, Rolf Sturm, Rob Henke, and Mark Feldman.

Roger Moss (Rotary Club of Savannah - Downtown): With a voice like warm honey and a disposition to match, the artistic director of the Savannah Children’s Choir provides musical education opportunities to second-through-eighth graders, regardless of economic background. “Our motto is to unite children through the power of song, and we’re committed to representing the cultural diversity of our city” says Roger. The Chattanooga, TN native challenges his young minstrels with classical pieces in different languages, resulting in more than sweet sounds.

Danny Cohen (Rotary Club of Savannah, West): Danny is no stranger to stages in the Savannah area. Danny received a voice performance major in college and enjoys all genres of music from opera to Broadway. His talents earned him semi-finalist in American Traditions Competition. Danny has sung as soloist with Savannah Symphony and other professional groups in area. He is an attorney with Brannen, Searcy & Smith, LLP.

Steve Stephens (Rotary Club of Savannah - Downtown): A Savannah native and president of Stage Front Presentation Systems, Steve started playing guitar at age of 14 and is still trying, though not very hard, to get it right. Music, which once earned him a meager living while he should have been in college, is now just a hobby. Steve’s wife Patricia is his biggest fan, even when he plays too loud. Steve is a Paul Harris Society member and is a Will Watt fellow.

Katherine Rosenblum: Katherine began singing at a young age with her father, Einar Trosdal. For years, she believed her father really was John Denver! He taught her to play the guitar. As a teenager she participated in numerous musicals and plays, both locally and at boarding school in Maryland. I have been singing contemporary worship music for the past 11 years. Currently, Katherine teaches music and P.E. at Cross Schools in Bluffton. Her husband, David, is a former president of the Rotary Club of Savannah. Katherine and David have three musical children. Eldest son Davis plays guitar and leads worship for his school chapel every week. Carol Ann, has a beautiful voice and loves to sing.

Peter Muller (Rotary Club of Savannah - Downtown): Peter is a litigation attorney, representing defendants in civil lawsuits. He is the managing partner of the Savannah office of Goodman McGuffey Lindsey & Johnson LLP and has been practicing law in Savannah since 1987. Prior to joining Savannah South Rotary, he was a member of the Skidaway Island Rotary club. Peter grew up in Savannah and was active in the Savannah Little Theatre, the Junior League Follies, and other venues. He has appeared in more than 25 productions over the years, including lead roles in The Three Musketeers and Godspell. Peter and his wife, Lisa, have three children.

Craig Harney (Rotary Club of Savannah - Downtown): Craig Harney is marketing director at WTOC-TV (wtoc.com, wtoc on the go mobile, ThisTV, Skytrak Weather Channel, and don’t forget FaceBook (Like Us dammit!), Twitter, YouTube, Foursquare, Linkedin ...). No really.
Craig is a native Savannahian who played guitar in his misspent hippie youth (though not as well as Steve Stephens or Cary Shoob) but climbed out of the fog long enough to earn a Poli Sci degree from Armstrong. The high water mark of his musical career was as lead guitarist for Yesterday’s News, a garage band formed from WTOC employees to prove that anybody can do this. The jury’s still out.
